History of Eventing

The first Eventing competition was recorded in France in 1902 and became an Olympic sport in 1912.
Eventing in the UK started in 1949 when Badminton Horse Trials were held for the first time. Since then, Britain has become one of the most successful nations in the history of the sport, with more than 260 medals in 84 years of Olympic, World and European competition.

International EventingĀ and the UK Sport

International three day events now take place in 22 countries around the world, from South America to Canada and from Poland to Australia. Britain stages the most international three day events in a year, including two of the most famous, Badminton and Burghley.

Today, the sport is governed in the UK by British Eventing, which is responsible for promoting and regulating more than 190 affiliated events, 10,000 horses and 12,000 members.
